Military Experiments

      Every year 342,000 dogs, cats, rabbits, primates, pigs, goats, and other animals are hurt and killed by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) in experiments that rank among the most painful conducted in this country. Annually the cost for these military experiments for taxpayers in to be in excess $225 million. Their testing in considered top secret.. it is very hard to get information about it. Form research published, we do know that armed forces facilitates all over the United States test all manner of weaponry on animals, from Soviet SK-47 rifles to biological and chemical warfare agents to nuclear blasts! These experiments are unreliable, painful, costly, repetitive, and wasteful because most of the effects they study can be, or have already been, observed in humans or because the results cannot be extrapolated to human experience. Here are just a couple examples of how the different "studies" are executed.

1.) Radiation-At the Armed Forces Radio biology Research Institute in Maryland, nine rhesus monkeys were strapped into chairs and exposed to total-body irradiation. Within two hours, six of the nine were vomiting, hyper-salivating, and chewing. In another experiment, 17 beagles were exposed to total-body irradiation, studied for one to seven days, and then killed. The experimenter concluded that radiation affects the gallbladder.

-At Brooks Air Force Base in Texas, rhesus monkeys were strapped to a B-52 flight simulator (the "Primate Equilibrium Platform"). After being prodded with painful electric shocks to learn to "fly" the device, the monkeys were irradiated with gamma rays to see if they could hold out "for the 10 hours it would take to bomb an imaginary Moscow." Those hit with the heaviest doses vomited violently and became extremely lethargic before being killed.

2.) Burns and Blasts

-As far back as in 1946, near the Bikini Atoll in the South Pacific, 4,000 sheep, goats, and other animals loaded onto a boat and set adrift were killed or severely burned by an atomic blast detonated above them. The military nicknamed the experiment "The Atomic Ark."

-At the Army's Fort Sam Houston, live rats were immersed in boiling water for 10 seconds, and a group of them were then infected on parts of their burned bodies. In 1987, at the Naval Medical Research Institute in Maryland, rats' backs were shaved, covered with ethanol, and then "flamed" for 10 seconds.

-In 1988, at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico, sheep were placed in a loose net sling against a reflecting plate, and an explosive device was detonated 19 meters away. In two of the experiments, 48 sheep were blasted: the first group to test the value of a vest worn during the blast and the second to see if chemical markers would aid in the diagnosis of blast injury (they did not).

3.) Animal Intelligence

-The armed forces conscript various animals into intelligence and combat service, sending them on "missions" that endanger their lives and well-being. The Marine Corps teaches dogs "mauling, snarling, sniffing, and other suitable skills" needed to search for bombs and drugs.

-A series of Navy tests of underwater explosives in the Chesapeake Bay in 1987 killed more than 3,000 fish, and the habitats of hundreds of species have been destroyed by nuclear tests in the South Pacific and the American Southwest.

4.) Wound Labs

-The Department of Defense has operated "wound labs" since 1957 to train medics and soldiers in how to treat traumatic injuries. At these sites, animals―who are sometimes conscious or semiconscious―are suspended from slings and shot with high-powered weapons to inflict battle-like injuries for military surgical practice. In 1983, in response to public pressure, Congress limited the use of dogs and cats in these training exercises.

-In 2006, a Navy corpsman told The New York Times that instructors "shot [his pig] twice in the face with a 9-millimeter pistol, and then six times with an AK-47 and then twice with a 12-gauge shotgun. And then he was set on fire."

-In 2008, the San Antonio Express-News described a trauma course in which 990 living goats had their legs broken and amputated: "Instructor Armand Fermin places a tree trimmer over a joint in the leg, closes it, applies pressure and a 'crack' echoes inside the dimly lit tent at Fort Sam Houston."

-Internal military documents obtained through Freedom of Information Act requests show that monkeys were exposed to chemical-weapon nerve-agent stimulants, after which an Army medic compared his monkey's apparently painful reaction during the exercise to "a chiwawa [sic] shitting razor blades."

5.) Diseases

-To evaluate the effect of temperature on the transmission of the dengue 2 virus, a mosquito-transmitted disease that causes fever, muscle pain, and rash, experimenters at the U.S. Army at Fort Detrick in Maryland shaved the stomachs of adult rhesus monkeys and then attached cartons of mosquitoes to their bodies to allow the mosquitoes to feed.

-Experimenters at Fort Detrick have also invented a rabbit-restraining device that consists of a small cage that pins the rabbits down with steel rods while mosquitoes feast on their bodies.

6.) Miscellaneous

-In 1992 and again in 1994, doctors with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine testified before Congress on military animal use and worked with the General Accounting Office in an investigation of Michael Carey's experiments at Louisiana State University. Carey shot 700 restrained cats in the head to "model" human injuries. As a result of the investigation, Carey's cat-shooting experiments were halted. Other forms of military experiments include subjecting animals to decompression sickness, weightlessness, drugs and alcohol, smoke inhalation, and pure oxygen inhalation.

7.)Military Reform

-The military's publicly accessible tracking system lists approximately 11,127 military experiments using animals that were conducted from 1998 to 2006. Such tests are as scientifically misleading as they are cruel. And animals have no stake in our human wars; why should they suffer just because humans do? All nations must reject chemical, biological, and ballistic weapons tests on animals and come together for the peaceful purpose of condemning and demanding an end to this form of violence masquerading as science.

MICE & RATS treated as nothings.

    Over one hundred MILLION mice and rats are killed in U.S. laboratories each year. They're abused in everything from technology tests (in which they are slowly poisoned to death( to painful burn experiments to psychological experiments that induce terror, anxiety, terror, helplessness, and depression. They are deliberately electro-shocked in pain studies, mutilated in experimental surgeries, and have everything from cocaine to methamphetamine pumped into their bodies. They are given cancerous tumors and are injected with human cells in genetic-manipulation experiments.
    Peta investigated inside the laboratories of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and University of Utah and revealed that mice and rats were give HUGE tumors and deadly, painful illnesses. Rats had holes drilled into their skulls for invasive brain experiments.
    These mammals have nervous systems like ours. It is no secret they feel loneliness, pain, fear, and joy as we do. These highly social animals communicate with each other using high-frequency sounds that are inaudible to the human ear. They become emotionally attached to each other, love their families, and easily bond with human guardians. Male mice woo mates with high-pitched love songs. Infant rat giggle when they are tickled. Not only do rats express empathy when another rat or human they know is distressed, they also exhibit altruism, putting themselves in harm's way instead of seeing another living being suffer, God Bless their souls.
    Even though they suffer and feel pain as much as dogs, cats, and rabbits do, they are not included in the meager federal Animal Welfare Act which provisions that extend at least some protection to these other species. Since they aren't protected by the law, experimenters don't even have to provide them with pain relief. While experimenters who use guinea pigs must provide them with pain relief and must at least show they're looked for modern alternatives to the use of animals, experimenters don't even have to count the mice and rats they kill. A 2009 survey by researchers at Newcastle University found that mice and rats who underwent painful, invasive procedures such as skull surgeries, burn experiments, and spinal surgeries were provided with post-procedural pain relief only about 20% of the time.
    Some estimates indicate that as many as right hundred U.S. laboratories aren't subject to Federal laws and inspections because they experiment exclusively on mice, rats, and other animals whose use is unregulated.

TESTING ON OUR PRIMATES

      Welcome to the world of animal testing on our primates. First and foremost, let me tell you a little something about primates. They are very intelligent animals who share psychological and biological traits with us, humans, not too mention their sensitivity. With that said, can you firstly imagine how the mothers of their screaming babies are forced away from their screaming mothers almost always just days after birth. Because primates are like us with attachment to their young, it is hard to just kidnap the babies. So, often the mothers are shot or stunned with guns, so the babies can be removed. Some catch the whole families in traps that are then packed into tiny cages without necessities and then brought to the centers where the rest of their lives is pure indecent Hell.

      Don't be mistaken, the photos shown below or in any of my blogs are not 1 out of 500,000 cases. This is everyday, everywhere. Once they arrive they are usually put into steel small cages of some sort.. a far cry from home where they live freely with others swinging vine to vine, learning. The lucky ones are given maybe a little toy to keep them entertained, a banana sometimes. Approximately 90% (Yes, 90%!) endure physical abuse, psychological stress, confinement, and isolation that they have no choice but to endure. They literally go insane by engaging in repetitive motions, back flipping, pacing around - even self mutilation like tearing out their own hair and biting their flesh.

      And then.. the reason why they are here.. the procedures..

1.) Military experiments and training: For chemical casual training exercises, squirrel monkeys are poisoned with nerve agents that cause them to convulse, even though human patient simulators exist and can provide more effective training. Other primates have been exposed to botulism, anthrax, and bubonic plague.

2.) Pharmaceutical tests: Gavage tubes are forced into their nostrils and/or throats so experimental drugs can be pumped inside of them. Guess what, 92% of these tests are a BIG failure and DO NO GOOD in learning anything.

3.) Invasive brain tests: Monkeys have holes drilled into their skulls, electrodes inserted into their brain, and metal restraint devices screwed into their heads. Some have portions of their brains destroyed or removed to cripple them and impair their cognitive function. Their bodies immobilized in restraint chairs and their heads bolted into place as they are forced to perform a variety of behavioral tasks while their brain activity is recorded. So that they cooperate, they are often deprived of water for a 24 hour period. Whenever they are finished, they are killed and dissected.

4.) Vaccine Tests: Rhesus monkeys and chimpanzees are infected with HIV-like diseases that cause them weight loss, organ failure, breathing problems, and neurological disorders even though years and years of these experiments have failed to produce vaccines for humans. These monkeys die excruciatingly painful deaths or are killed.. murdered..

5.) Maternal-deprivation experiments: Over 50 years ago Harry Harlow began pulling baby primates away from their mothers, giving them only rag dolls or noxious wire "mothers" as substitutes. We already know what the mothers and babies feel, still the University of Washington, Oregon National Primate Research Center, and Wake Forest University repeat these cruel scenarios. They are intentionally causing trauma and examine what harm is resulted. The connection between maternal deprivation and whether the baby monkeys became right or left handed helps also show the animals' alcohol drinking behavior later in life. Nope, that's not a typo. The ANIMALS' alcohol drinking behavior later in life.
